Introduction
Popcorn is an application which will allow you to view and edit movies compatible with the QuickTime¬ Movie Toolbox. It is compatible with both System 6 and System 7 provided that the QuickTime extension is installed, however Popcorn can run in a ╘browse╒ mode when it is unable to play movies.
Popcorn will allow you to open, play & edit multiple movies all at the same time using the standard Movie Controller. In addition to being able to play a movie forwards or backwards and control its volume, you can repeat a movie (loop) indefinitely or even attempt a palindrome (forward then backwards). You may also choose to resize a movie to see it at a larger or smaller scale.
Movie editing is possible using the Movie Controller and the Edit menu. You are able to cut and copy frames from one movie, paste them into another and finally save the changes to create your own movies - and should you make a mistake, there's always undo! Popcorn is also compatible with Wild Magic (Apple Computer, Inc.'s extension for playing QuickTime movies in PICT-supporting applications), so that you can paste your edits into documents in other applications and play them there.
When running under System 7, Popcorn is able to take advantage of the new features of that operating system. In addition to being able to ╘Drag & Drop╒ movies onto Popcorn, it supports the required Apple events and offers Balloon Help¬ for all of its menus & dialogs.
Operation:
Popcorn is a standard Macintosh application consisting of Apple Menu, File and Edit Menus as well as a dismissable Splash Screen.
The Apple Menu contains both About Popcorn¬, for information about Popcorn itself, and About Aladdin Products, which will introduce you to other products by Aladdin Systems.
The File Menu will allow you to open and close movies, as well as save any changes that you have made to a movie. You also use the File menu to turn editing on or off for a given movie and to exit the application.
The Edit Menu, of course, consists of the standard commands for use in editing the movie, and therefore they are only active when the front-most movie has had editing turned on.
The Movie Controller is the standard one and in addition to the controls provided for the mouse, some keyboard enhancements have been added. The arrow keys can be used to scroll through the movie frame by frame. The shift key is useful in two ways - when editing, you can also hold down the shift key with the arrows to select frames, and when held down and clicking on the Play button you enable looping. Holding down the option key when clicking Play will enable palindrome play, which can give you some interesting effects.
If you are running System 7 and need more help with a particular menu item, or movie control, enable Ballon Help from the Help Menu.
